voila! was founded in 2008 by the Belgian native Katrien Van der Schueren, an art historian, artist, designer and published author. Her first aspiration upon venturing to LA was to write fiction novels, but she started to import vintage posters instead. Over the next four years, a staggering 42,000 vintage paper treasures would pass her hands and make their way to specialized dealers in France, Belgium, Italy, Australia and the United States. Frustrated with what LA had to offer in picture framing options, she launched her own atelier to achieve the high level of quality she desired to preserve her unique finds.
These services rapidly evolved into a wildly successful business venture of its own which led her to open her first LA showroom. Meanwhile she added vintage furniture and lighting to her import/ export endeavor. To feed her creativity, she started repurposing vintage finds into unique functional designs. Containers with American vintage airplane parts are transformed into furniture and lighting and sold on the European market whilst vintage European glove molds are recreated into lavish chandeliers for the LA showroom. While her framing services continued to flourish, her design and production services quickly grew into their own branch of the business, causing her storefront to seek a larger space in 2008.
